Gene therapy is a promising new frontier, which has been recently enriched by CRISPR technology. CRISPR, or Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats based technology originates from a bacterial defence system, which has been adapted to mammalian (including human) cells to induce alterations in the genome with a previously unimagined degree of precision. The ease and precision of the system also promises easy translatability to clinical conditions. In order to clinically translate any technology, along with scientific advancements, we require scalability and regulatory platforms to facilitate their use.
This is true for both therapeutics and diagnostics. In the field of diagnostics, we already have extensive experience with CRISPR based diagnostics for COVID 19. This would also be discussed in the conference, with reference to the development of rapid and accurate point of care CRISPR based diagnostics for both communicable and non-communicable diseases.
The conference would have speakers who are at the cutting edge of basic science, scientists whose work is being clinically translated, participants from the industry, science agencies and patient advocacy groups. With active participation from the audience, this conference aims to promote a dialogue and create a blue print for effective, safe, and accessible CRISPR based gene therapy and diagnostics in India.
