Sun Pharma Science Foundation is organising its 45th National Symposium on “Innovations in Age-appropriate Therapeutics for the Elderly: Challenges and Opportunities” in association with National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) – Raebareli.
The domain of clinical pharmaceutics continues to expand towards patient-centered formulation-development. This is visible for geriatrics patients where recent regulatory reforms are leaned towards facilitating the access to safe and high-quality medications. Formulations now need to be designed while accommodating age-related physiological changes and unique dose requirements for geriatric patients – with a focus on oral route of delivery. The advancement of personalized medicines, which use the data of genomes and biomarkers for customizing for each patient's requirements, is gaining attention. With the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and U.S. Food and Drug Administration (US-FDA) requiring investigators to outline comprehensive formulation development strategies, this area has become an integral part of the drug development process. Factors such as composition, dosage form, dosing frequency, methods of administration, specialized labelling and packaging requirements have taken a center-stage. Emphasis is being placed on ensuring that the patient uses the medicine in a right manner and that the caregiver can administer medicine as intended.
This conference aims to stimulate participants' curiosity in the area of age-appropriate therapeutics and development of personalized medicines. It will serve as a beacon for scientists, researchers, clinicians, and industry experts to converge, collaborate, and catalyze advancements in the field of age-appropriate drug delivery techniques. The conference includes three sessions focusing on: hallmarks of ageing, age-appropriate geriatric formulations and regulatory perspectives. Experts from academia and practicing clinicians will share their insights, experiences, and latest research findings. A flash-talk session has been added with the aim of providing platform to young researchers so that they can showcase their research.
Beyond the formal sessions, the conference would offer ample networking opportunities, thus enabling the attendees to forge meaningful connections, establish collaborations, and exchange perspectives with peers and experienced researchers.
